The beautiful Laurel Highlands mountains are near my home in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and a short drive from Pittsburgh. I love to hike and there are many state parks in the area with scenic trails and overlooks. If hiking isn’t your thing, you can also bike, kayak or go on an adventure whitewater rafting at one of my favorite parks, Ohiopyle State Park, located in Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania.
On a recent Saturday morning, I started my day off with breakfast at The Bittersweet Cafe, which is just a few miles outside of Ohiopyle. Everything on the menu is great, but I highly recommend the Belgium Waffle! You can take in the peaceful setting while you enjoy breakfast and sip on your coffee.

It was a bright, sunny day so I decided to hike a trail I’ve never been on – the Ferncliff Trail, which runs along the Youghiogheny River. The Ferncliff Peninsula has been designated as a Natural National Landmark! While I hiked I would take breaks and sit on the rocks to watch the rafters float down the river. It is such a peaceful area an a hike with amazing views of the river.

When you are finished with your hike, be sure to stop for ice cream back in town!
